Hi there! good to hear from you and happy to know that your work is going on! It is a different specimen. I have some weeks working relatively near your country, I´m in Guatemala invited by some scientists friends of mine. They are ornithologists working in a new proposed area for a National Park in the Motagua Valley, The Government requested a bird and wildlife up-to date catalogue of the area and I can tell you that it is the best way for me to spend my vacation´s time! I hear that very near from this area still live some jaguars, and that from time to time you can see some foot-print of this big cats in a highland forest some 4 km. north from here, still in Motagua. Now I don´t have much time to comment here in Wildlife Direct but I´m happy to see your blog today! In a few weeks I´ll be back in the States, missing a lot this beautiful Central and South American lands! por favor reciban un fuerte abrazo y mis mejores deseos de que su trabajo continue tan fructifero como haste ahora. Ustedes estan haciendo un gran trabajo de conservacion!! Thanks a lot for that y por todas sus atenciones!

Hi Pechir, I’ve missed you. Do you have any information about elephants’ culling in South Africa? I hope that this horrible practice haven’t passed. Thank you.

Dear Lucia…Thank you!! Unfortunately South Africa had suspended the ban of the elephant hunt, but the government has no inmediate plans to realize any cull. But South Africa is already killing elephants in other african countries: the illegal killing of elephants by poaches has been dramatically incremented in Africa because the thinking that South Africa will sell the ivory resulting from the possible slaughter of elephants, in other words, the poachers are preparing their stocks of ivory that could be introduced easily in the black market once the “legal ivory” is put in offer by South Africa. I remind you that the proposed elephant slaughter has no ecological, no scientific reason. It is just like the slaughter of north american black bears that in this very momment is taking place in the game management unit 16b in Alaska, where more than 1300 bears including females with cubs are being shot, trapped and poisoned by the local goverment agencies, alleging that this bears represents a threat to the moose and caribou herds, but it is only a stupid argument to slaughter such beautiful animals.
